A unique house for sale in lovely West Cork, Ireland

This house is ideally situated for visiting many of West Cork's main attractions. It is 5mins from Ballylickey and 10mins from Bantry, the main centre for this part of the county, where you will find supermarkets, secondary schools, a modern three-screen cinema, many restaurants and bars, a library and two hotel leisure centres including swimming pools with membership open to the public. Bantry retains its prosperous and thriving air - and in common with the rest of this delightful corner of West Cork - there is no evidence of the abandoned half-finished developments which seem to be the modern image of some other parts of Ireland.  Bantry is of course the location of Bantry House, an interesting stately home with attractive gardens which is often the venue for concerts, including the increasingly renowned annual Chamber Music Festival and Masters of Tradition Festival. Bantry is also host to a lively Literary Festival each summer, with readings and workshops. Approaching Bantry, you will pass the entrance to Bantry Golf Club, one of two beautiful scenic courses in the area.

Our nearest beach - five minutes' drive!

Past Bantry, you can drive to the Sheeps Head, Ballydehob and Mizen Head, passing the thriving sailing centre of Schull en route to picturesque Crookhaven, the superb beach at Barley Cove and Mizen Head itself, with its bridge, lighthouse, visitor and exhibition  centres.

Driving east, but not towards the coast, in half an hour you will come to Gougane Barra National Park, a mossy wooded valley where the River Lea starts its journey to Cork Harbour.

Six miles (15 minutes) to the west is Glengarriff, with its sheltered harbour at the head of BantryBay. This is a wonderful cruising area, and we have a mooring here suitable for a boat up to 35 feet, which is also available.  Glengarriff is famed for its sub-tropical gardens - GarinishIsland and the BambooPark. It also has several bars (with regular music sessions), hotels and restaurants, as well as art galleries and shops. Just outside the village is the Glengarriff Forest Park, which has several lovely walks, by the river, through woodland and up the wooded hills. Glengarriff has a lively social scene, with several active clubs and societies (ICA, Drama, Dance and Karate classes etc.), and Glengarriff Golf Club, with spectacular views of the Bay.

Beyond Glengarriff, you can drive onto the ruggedly beautiful BearaPeninsula, or take the spectacular road across the mountains into Kerry.

These photographs will give you a taste of the wonderful scenery which you will find in virtually every direction from the house, but we could show hundreds more equally beautiful views.

I am an artist, so if you would like to see a number of water colour paintings inspired by the West Cork countryside, including a couple of the house, have a look at my website, www.robertsartwork.net.
